We go through a serious amount of arnica in my house. My husband is a commercial roofer who always seems to be injuring himself in one way or another. I also suffer from low back pain from a car accident many moons ago. I don’t know how I never heard about the magic that is arnica until a couple years ago, but I know now that I was missing out!

Arnica (Arnica montana) is well-known for its analgesic abilities to ease swelling, bruising and pain due to injury or trauma. It’s also a resolvent for pulled muscles and ligaments and treating arthritic joints. I also added comfrey to the mix for its own healing abilities. Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) has been used historically to aid in the healing of injuries, first for the minerals it contains that are needed for healing, as well as containing allantoin, which stimulates cell growth. My wildcrafted Purple Dead Nettle (Lamium purpureum) is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties and its presence rounds out our go-to salve.

This salve is not for use in pregnancy or on open wounds or broken skin; some with sensitive skin may experience hypersensitivity- if it seems to be causing redness instead of resolving it, discontinue use.
